Gilding and signwriting for Gingers Comfort Emporium...work in progress
I've gilded onto wood and fibrous plaster many times before but I'd never gilded onto metal. Then Ginger's Comfort Emporium came along..........
I have to say, I love how exact and methodical the gilding process is. The leaf is so thin afterall at 0.00008 of a millimetres any flaws in your work easily show. Right from the preparation of the substrate to the consistency, flow and tack of the size, it's crucial to get every step right along the way. I find the whole process quite Zen like!
There's still lots to do on Gingers; some more gilding, and we've also picked out some signwriters enamels in nice complimentary colours to get going with.....
Watch this space!

HK Arts new look
I've had the same old logo, stationery and website for about 14 years now. We cobbled it all together ourselves back in the early days of HK Art. What it lacked in looks, it made up for in search engine rankings. Once google spiders and the like got hold of it we had regular, good quality enquiries coming direct to us and our work really picked up.
The old website needed to go; the work on it looked dated and it didn't reflect the direction HK Arts work has been going in these last couple of years. You'll no longer see large scale themed murals or trompe l'oeil but more paint finishes and effects for walls, furniture painting, colour consultancy and my new love....gilding. Mmmm! More of that later.
So, while we're waiting for Melly to do his teccy stuff on the new website, I've been playing with the rubber stamps that arrived this morning.
The ace Molly Cockcroft designed the new logo and website. I wanted to have handmade business cards this time. Everything I do is by hand, so it seemed fitting to carry this through onto the business stationery. I love the quality of Letterpress printing and Gills Sans typeface; I just haven't got the time to do proper letterpress as there's so many other things to concentrate on at the minute. So,rubber stamps it is!
See pictures..... I'm very pleased!
